Books I Did Not Finish - 2025

I’ve been more willing to quit reading/listening to books over the years. In 2025, I quit or did not finish (DNF) 15 books. I’ve loved keeping track of these books in case I come across them again and can see that I wasn’t into it at the time.
These are the previous posts of books I didn’t finish:
My two cents: Read whatever you want and makes you happy. But never feel guilty to quit if it’s not for you (even if everyone is reading it and talking about it, or it was a gift, or your book club is reading it). I think if you continue to read books that don’t make you happy, then you are going to start to dislike reading. And we can’t have that!
Here are the books that I DNF and just couldn’t get into this past year - with a few notes on some of them.
- Pearl by Sian Hughes
- Like Mother, Like Mother by Susan Rieger
- Casket Case by Lauren Evans
- Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight
- Posted by John David Anderson
- I don’t recall why I stopped reading this one. When I look at the book summary, it seems like something I would enjoy. I may give it another try.
- A Study in Drowning by Ava Reed
- I adored the physical copy of this book. it has beautiful sprayed edges. But the story had too many “fantasy” names and the academia setting were just not for me.
- One Day by David Nichols
- The Last Gifts of the Universe by Riley August
- Another stunnung cover, but I could just not get into this one. But again, re-reading the description, I would like to give this one another shot.
- All the Water in the World by Eiren Caffal
- West with Giraffes by Lydia Rutledge
- This was a book club pick and I found it slow from the beginning and wasn’t in the mood to keep going. Womp Womp.
- The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee
- The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
- The Cemetery of Untold Stories by Julia Alvarez
- My Friends by Fredrik Backman
- By far my least favorite book he has written. I could not get over how dull it was and had no interest in finishing it.
- God of the Woods by Liz Moore

Ponder This:
- What are your feelings on not finishing books?
- What are some books you never finished?
- Have you ever gone back and tried again with books you couldn’t get through the first time?
- Have you read any of these books I didn’t finish? Did you like them? Dislike them?
